Perfect overnight stay at Castel Gandolfo
We spent a night in Castel Gandolfo, with a view to visit the Papal palace before heading back to Rome. Il Raduno is located in the heart of the old town, along the pedestrainised Corso Della Republica, which is lined ith restaurants and shops. Despite this it was quiet by evenings, and we had a comfortable and quiet night's sleep. Parking can be tricky to find - we did a few rounds and eventually found a free spot on the belvedere opposite Centro Maripaoli, about 10 minutes away by foot.
The apartment is spacious, and well equipped with kitchen facilities and a washing machine and had a small balcony as well. The host is helpful and friendly, and came by to meet us after self check-in.

Beautiful apartment in the center, not a few steps but seconds from all the main places of interest of the place.

Interesting Town!
We booked a single night stay at Il Raduno, solely because Castle Gandolfo is an easy drive to the airport in Fiumicino as we needed to pick up arriving friends there the next day. We did not realize the significance of this place, being the Pope's summer residence and having an extensive Papal palace and gardens. Luckily we arrived early enough to tour the palace and catch the final garden tour of the day! What a unique place! The setting is pretty cool too - on the rim of a lake filled volcanic caldera.
Il Raduno is located within the pedestrianized old town, so one must park outside and walk in. There are numerous parking areas, some free or 4 Euros per day, depending on where you find a spot. And it can be challenging to find to find a spot! It took us a few circuits before finding a spot near one of the gates, and this was later in the day in April, which should have been less busy than the summer! No matter where you park, you will have to walk into the old town.
While Il Raduno is in the middle of the old town, and there is significant potential for noise, we found it to be quiet as most tourists left in the evening, leaving the town quite empty overnight. There were lots of restaurants and shops nearby.
The suite featured a fridge and stove, but no kettle. It had a small balcony overlooking the street behind the house. The room was quite spacious, comfortable, clean and well-maintained. The bathroom was up a short flight of stairs and was fairly tight, but certainly serviceable.
We initially had some problems logging into wifi but after consulting with the host by phone were able to get it working.
Castel Gandolfo is certainly worth visiting and if staying overnight Il Raduno is a very good option.

Pleasant stay
Right in the historic centre of Castel Gandolfo, this apartment is in an ideal location. Well stocked with food for breakfast, and the host is friendly and welcoming. Air conditioning works well, and the beds were very comfortable

Excellent B&B
I’ll Raduno is a lovely B&B right in the heart of Castel Gandolfo. Adonella, our host, was kind enough to collect us from the train station but if she’s not available, then it’s about a 20min walk up to the old town. It’s a bit of a uphill trek but if you take your time it’s more than do able. Stick to the path along the road rather than the pedestrian pathway. The latter is steeper, cobbled and has steps. Andonella communicated well prior to our visit and as per above was there to show us around her apartment. It’s on the 2nd floor, no lift but easy to get up to. Though the apartment is small, it’s more than Ok for a couple. Comfortable bed, clean and well appointed. It’s attended to each day and has a small kitchenette, although there is only a small very basic shop within walking distance. However right out the front door there are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. Being on the 2nd floor right in the heart of the old town, a bit of the town’s hustle and bustle made its way up but it didn’t last too long into the night and we had no trouble sleeping. Adonella was readily available if we had any issues. We had a most enjoyable stay at Ill Raduno and would happily recommend to others.
