Spectacular view
Surprising! Right downtown. Built on a cliff, you enter from the 5th floor to descend to the lower floors. Breathtaking views of the mountain and the flight of the angel. Also equipped with a pleasant terrace where you can sip a beer in the evening. Very comfortable bed. Silent, but that's probably a quality of the whole country. Breakfast is charged separately for 10€ per person but definitely worth it

Where do I begin? Perhaps at the beginning. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon the reception was locked and dark. We wandered around the side of the building to rest and have a snack before trying to figure out what to do next. Quickly someone emerged from the restaurant attempting to chase us away before we could explain that we were hotel guests looking to check in. Once language barriers were crossed we were able to check into our room which was clean appearing but smelled oddly of cat litter. We then realized there was no air conditioning. We spoke with someone at the front desk who explained they needed to get a technician out to turn the AC on because it was a “system uniquo”. We also learned that despite making reservations at the restaurant months ago and confirming the restaurant was closed for dinner and we were encouraged to use the internet to find an alternative place to eat. At no point was the front desk ever occupied and we had to ask someone at the restaurant to unlock the front door before they left to keep us from being locked out. That being said the view from our room was unreal snd we slept well enough with the door to the balcony open (no screen). For dinner we were lucky to stumble across the street to Hotel Dolomiti where we were received graciously and fed well. I wish we had stayed there instead! Castlemezzano is an enchanted place, you should definitely see it, but do not stay at this hotel.

Definitely positive experience
We spent a short holiday in Castelmezzano in the Province of Potenza and stayed at the "Locanda di Castromediano" with the adjacent restaurant "Il becco della civetta".
I have to say that the location is very elegant, the restaurant first rate and the staff very friendly and helpful, especially Mrs. Stefania, the receptionist, and Mrs. Marika.
At the hotel you enter on the fifth floor; the room on the first floor has a lovely terrace on which you can relax with a view of the Lucanian Dolomites.
Unfortunately it seems that the period we chose was not really considered high season and, therefore, there were not many guests in the hotel (practically there was only us).
Nevertheless, the Service offered has always been impeccable.
We are very grateful to the owners, Mrs. Stefania that Mrs. Marika for the care received during our stay.

Not to be recommended
The balcony offers a wonderful view, and our room was relatively clean. However, the service was not what one can expect from a place in this price range. Unfortunately, we had paid in advance. The staff was casual, often ignored us and seemed overwhelmed by the fact that we were the only guests in the house.
The breakfast was changeable and reflected the staff’s lack of interest. It was not possible to have orange juice during our three-day stay. The coffee was either too thin or too strong, as if using the coffee pods twice. When the jam jar was empty, it was not refilled the next morning and we were told to eat Nutella instead (in the small plastic packaging).
We did not feel welcome, and had the impression that the owners and the staff were so busy with the (really necessary) renovation work that we were rather a nuisance. This is understandable, but then they should either close the place completely, or not demand the full, rather high, price.

Excellent
Excellent hotel in the middle of the village. Very friendly staff, comfortable room, price quite reasonable. The food at the attached restaurant is first class. The village is worth a visit - half-way between Naples and Puglia, and close to Matera.
