Villa Paola

The perfect place to enjoy peace and relaxation.
The staff is kind and prepared, ready to accommodate every request and need.

Some of the best sunsets I have seen
We had a 7 night stay here as the start to our three and a half week holiday.
Breakfast was huge and delicious but far too much food for me, luckily my husband has a huge appetite. Emma and the other staff at breakfast (sorry, can't remember everyone's name) took excellent care of us. We enjoyed drinks each night on the terrace taking in the fabulous sunsets. Salvatore the barman was a delight, he made us several cocktails of his own creation. We had several dinners here as well, not a huge menu but food very good. On the Saturday night there was a singer which was lovely.
It is an easy 15 minute walk into Tropea but be aware there is no sidewalk and you are walking along the side of the road. This was not a problem at all during the day but at night we walked in but took Uber or a cab home when it was dark.
The grounds and the views from this hotel are really the show stoppers...wow - beautiful jasmine hedges, bougainvillea, loads of different cacti, roses, the view out to sea, to Tropea, down to the hotel's vegetable farm, simply incredible. We walked down the hill through the vegetable garden to the marina and back up, I thought the climb back up might be a bit much but it was really fine. There is a very pretty beach down there as well.
We had an Executive room, it was large, the bathroom was a good size and there was a nice outdoor sitting area with a sort of side view of the sea. Be aware though that this room is sort of sub ground on the one side so you kind of feel like you are in a basement, I found it a bit dark, and it is not an inexpensive room. Some constructive criticism for a hotel charging these prices would be: the towels, pillows and bed linens were a bit tired and not what I would expect at that price, the bathroom amenities were a bit basic, the bed was very uncomfortable (it was very hard, but I think this might just be an Italian preference as I have encountered this all over Italy)
On the very plus side, the pool was just gorgeous and most days we had it all to ourselves. It was so relaxing to be able to see the sea, swim in the pool surrounded by jasmine and bougainvillea and just totally relax in peace and quiet.

A quiet, peaceful stay
I very much enjoyed my recent stay at this hotel, except for a couple issues that I mentioned to the team. The property itself is beautiful, with clean and quiet rooms, and a great location only about 15/20 minutes (walking) into town (although maybe not to walk at night given there aren't sidewalks or walking lanes).
The food was fantastic - especially the breakfast with multiple options to choose from each morning. Thanks to Emma and Maria for always being so kind and welcoming. I appreciated the attention to my dietary needs as well. They were excellent.
I loved the pool. At first, given that it wasn't very large I wasn't sure it would be so peaceful with other guests there as well. But, I luckily had it all to myself for a few hours on a couple days. Swimming and smelling the lovely flowers was just what I needed. The hotel also overlooks their farm or garden, and they use the produce in their kitchens. You can walk down from the hotel through it to get to the beaches. It's a bit strenuous to walk back up, so maybe see about a shuttle.
I was concerned about a hygienic issue that occurred in the dining area one evening, which I expressed to the team, so hopefully it has been addressed.
Thanks to Sara, Camilla, Catia, Deborah and Michela. There were a few instances where I wasn't sure if my questions or concerns were being disregarded, but I think it was more a matter of the language barrier.
Couple things to note:
-The private car transfer from the Lamezia Terme train station is 120 euros.
-They do offer laundry services for a cost.
-I had some trouble with receiving a response via email before I arrived. I had to ask their sister hotel to help with the connection. Then everything went smoothly.
Overall, a lovely stay.

Villa Paola is a gem immersed in tranquility and peace, with a breathtaking view of the splendid port of Tropea. A facility attended to in every detail, where each element contributes to creating a refined and welcoming atmosphere.
We chose the De Minimi restaurant and its nine-course tasting menu, "La Novena," completely trusting the skilled hands of Chef Emanuele Pucci. An extraordinary gastronomic journey, rich in research, creativity, and harmony of flavors.
Accompanying the menu was an impeccable wine pairing curated by Sommelier Maria, a professional of innate skill and elegance, capable of enhancing each dish with perfect pairings. A special thanks also to Giuseppe, attentive and knowledgeable, and to the maître, excellent in describing the dishes, the study work that supports them, and the philosophy that animates the entire restaurant.
All the staff was simply wonderful, from the welcome to the aperitif served on the terrace.
An unforgettable experience that we will carry with us as one of the most beautiful memories on our anniversary.

Booking Mix Up :(
Called and booked in advance to go for drinks on the terrace!!! Drove all the way there only to find they had a wedding and the terrace bar was closed for the function!!
Definitely very annoying when you check and try to make sure all will be ok!!!!
