Hotel park Service Desert
A drive home in heavy snow did not come into consideration for us around the time.
And what must not be forgotten in the end is, it was not a place for Peanuts.
At over 400 euros for two nights or 550 euros with breakfast, you can also demand a clean room and even more importantly just stand by if you have done something wrong and bear the consequences for it, namely refund money which you wrongly withhold, since no corresponding service was provided.
Long story short: I want to distance myself from bad reviews in the first place, just because you are amazed that an outdoor pool is not operated in winter. I definitely don't belong to this category.
However, what I experienced with my family at the Hotelpark Bodetal in early January ́26 is difficult to digest. In forty years of traveling, I have never experienced anything like this. But let's jump back in time together.
It was a relatively spontaneous trip for my wife's birthday with our 19-month-old daughter. Found and booked through booking.com, we headed to Thale to the Hotelpark Bodetal on a snowy, cold January day.
On site everything seemed relaxed, we checked into our room house 8 ground floor in the afternoon and experienced directly the nasty surprise. Upon entering the room, a foul, cheesey smell struck us. Well I thought it was cold, visually the room looked completely outdated but okay, maybe the cleaning agent worked a bit. So first of all, there was a proper airing.
Nevertheless, at the reception, I informed the very obese man of the hotel park sitting there that the room smelled bad. He escaped from the situation where cleaning staff were currently no longer available, but he promised to clean again the following day. For now, I left it at that. Despite multiple offers to perceive the smell in the room itself, the gentleman did not move away from the reception. His work motivation probably corresponds to his interest in sports activities.
Since our little one is a water fan, we went to the Bodetaltherme promptly. After our return and despite tilted windows for transverse ventilation in outside temperatures just around zero degrees greeted us again upon entering the apartment our roommate, the rotten, cheesey stench.
I put my nose in and with a little effort and the necessary rest I was able to find the alleged culprit in the kitchen afterwards. He sat in the drain of the kitchen sink as well as in the overflow of the cutlery rack, see also the photos attached. As can easily be seen on this one, the comrade in particular was cherished and cared for during the course of the cutlery storage for weeks, if not months, by consistent disregard of basic rules of hygiene on the part of the hotel.
Reception followed, part 2. The receptionist was about to start the evening, I confronted him with the photo of the cutlery rack and had to stand in his way half-seriously so that he would listen to me at all and not run away. Once again, there followed phrases and expletives that the staff would not be there for cleaning.
I politely ask for someone from the management, I was given the prospect that in addition to the cleaning the following day, someone from the management would be there to talk about appropriate compensation for the inconvenience. Then he disappeared like a silver lining on the horizon.
Grinding our teeth and knowing that, due to the increasingly snowy weather in the Harz Mountains, we postponed our journey home until indefinitely, we stayed on site. It was aired all night, the smell had already settled on the furniture located in the apartment including parts of our clothes. Only the bedroom offered some odour protection, as this could be separated from the source of the stench by an internal door.
The next morning we went for breakfast and shortly after eight followed reception: Part Three. Mrs. K. was at least a little more motivated than her colleague the day before when I described the problem to her.
She stated that the janitor was present and would be sent to our room promptly to take care of the matter. I asked her, Mrs. K., about the management, whereupon she informed me that they would stay on vacation until nine days after the booked end of our stay. Phew. At present, no one would be present to decide on compensation.
Logically, I immediately asked you why your obese colleague lied to me the night before. We all realize that he just wanted to save his after-hours and get rid of me. Ms. K. blamed this on a “communication problem.” Aha.
The caretaker appeared in the room after a good hour and dismantled the kitchen drain and the cutlery rack. He showed me the drainpipe in which a tough, brown mass hung at the lowest point of the first bend of the pipe. He promised to rinse the pipe and the overflow of the cutlery tray properly and that the smell would hopefully be history.
So he did and reassembled everything properly in the kitchen. This process took a good hour.
We went away from the apartment and spent the day as planned in Thale, although the night before was creepy.
On our return after a few hours we were greeted again, roommate stench was still there. Slightly weaker than before, but still clearly perceptible. Our clothes, which lay in the bedroom, were more and more combined with the foul smell, so the ripcord was pulled. The re-cleaning of the room, assured by the reception staff, has not been proven. Everything was still lying as it was left behind.
Reception part 4 follows, the finale. Mrs. K. Has been explained that we will leave due to the untenable conditions in the room. Breakfast paid in advance for both days and the cost of the dog were refunded 50%. That was it. For further refunds, I should contact Ms. K. An Booking. But if I had pulled out tips now, it probably wouldn't have gone through Booking. A scoundrel who thinks evil.
So the following day, a report describing the circumstances was sent to Booking, including an appropriate, honest review. Booking checked and offered a tenth of the travel price as compensation. Um, no, it's still a holiday apartment with a stench.
After Booking didn't really help, I contacted the hotel again. The loyal readers will say to themselves: Reception part five, the return. The lady on the phone was asked by me to put me through to the management or anyone at the next higher management level. She stated that this was not currently possible and noted my phone number. For a prompt callback. She copied the number from the display correctly because she read it to me.
Spoiler alert: There was no call back.
So I called again the following day and happened to have Mrs. K. From reception part two to four at the Aparillo. She actually informed me that I will not receive a call back from the management of Märzke because I wrote a bad review on Booking. This falls under “The spirits I called”. A bottomless cheek.
Dear team from Hotelpark Bodetal. It's a mystery to me how the cleaner was able to clean the room without detecting this smell. Furthermore, the obese receptionist lied shit-cheekily from our arrival day. Just lying to pull his head out of the noose until I left.
Then, reference was made to Booking to further pull out of the responsibility. Yes, the booking came about via Booking, but stunk not their Internet presence, but the apartment 8 in the EG Hotelpark Bodetal.
And if a guest, no matter how uncomfortable the call may be, has a concern and would like to hear it not only from a receptionist, then as a manager I at least have the respect for my clientele and call back, this clientele finally puts my food on the plate.

A great place to stay (second time here)
The restaurant is nice, and it's great to sit outside and look at the amazing surroundings (mountains, forrest and a great old church). The food quality is average, and can be found much better close to the hotel.
The apparent is pretty big, and very nice and everything works as expected.
Overall I highly recommend this place, we love it here :)
