A Tranquil Oasis
If you find yourself in Sihanoukville and in need of a place to stay, you could do far worse than the Villa Blue Lagoon, a tranquil oasis amidst the chaos of the town.
I will be candid: I have never stayed at the Villa Blue Lagoon, so I have no idea if the beds are hard or soft, the plumbing up to scratch or the paint on the walls conforms to some imaginary pastel standard. Cambodia, for all its recent tourist gloss, remains a country where infrastructure and expectation do not always march in step — a fact that some TripAdvisor reviews, in their earnestness or their malice, seem determined to deny.
The Villa Blue Lagoon presents itself as a small, almost stubbornly civilized enclave — a compound walled off from the town’s general propensity for noise and neon, colonized instead by an enthusiastic proliferation of plants.
There is a pool, a bar and an outdoor dining area where the air itself conspires with the menu to make one believe, briefly, that one is in a place where the clocks run to a different, more forgiving tempo.
You'll get a friendly welcome from the owner and the staff. The menu is Khmer and western, the food very good, the prices reasonable.
The Villa Blue Lagoon is a 5 minute tuk-tuk from the bus station and, if you are island-bound, another 5 to the port.

Charming but Lacking the Personal Touch
We stayed at Blue Lagoon for two nights as a family after missing a flight, and overall, it was an okay stay with some pros and cons.
The property itself is cute and well-maintained, with a clean pool and a peaceful atmosphere. The rooms and furniture are a bit outdated, and the beds are extremely hard so if you’re looking for soft, fluffy comfort, this might not be the place.
While breakfast isn’t included, you can purchase all meals on-site, and the food is actually quite good. My children really enjoyed the meals, and there’s a nice happy hour setup in the evenings which adds a relaxed vibe.
The biggest downside for us was the lack of hospitality. The owners were present but didn’t engage or check in on guests at all, not even a hello or “how’s your stay?” The two waitresses who served us were kind and tried to be welcoming, but you could tell they were a bit overworked.
Also, a heads-up for future guests: the bathrooms are shared unless the place is very quiet (like it was during our stay). So if it’s full, expect to share with others.
All in all, a decent short stay, especially if you’re not too picky. Our kids had fun, the food was good, and the place was clean, but don’t expect five-star comfort or a warm, personal welcome.

Nice little gem
Stayed for two nights and had a great time with the German hosts who run this little hostel for 12 years now. The swimming pool is a nice little extra. The asian food from the restaurant was so good that I did not bother to dine out (which I usually do).
Rooms are clean. The entire premises are well kept. Recommended.

Very bad experience
Very rude owner with mafia style of behavior. I did not even stop at this place after the first conversation. In addition, this place is very far from the beach and the piers and you will have to walk a long way or take transport. I strongly do not recommend staying here.
