This was just a perfect hotel for our 1 night pit stop we spent little time here other than to sleep in it the room was clean and the hotel was conveniently located for Monterey .

NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE. WHAT HAPPENED!?

I asked for a refund 40-minutes after checking in.
The front desk was nice about a refund and wanted to accommodate me but couldn’t because I booked through a third party. I would have to deal with them directly or take the charge. More on that later.
I would normally have sucked it up rather than lose one hundred dollars or make a fuss, at least the sheets and towels were clean, and the guy at the desk was nice. But my discomfort grew by the minute. It was that bad.
I called my credit card company and asked to dispute the charge and left.
This once was a good place. Our company used it for overnight business on a regular basis, and I have fond memories of the Crazy Horse (which looks long-time vacant).
Someone needs to love this place again or mow it down. More importantly, someone should take down the photos that make it look like it’s still a nice place to stay. If you don’t look at reviews, you will be highly disappointed.
Note that I didn’t catch the third-party charge (an additional $25) because the sponsored link reads “Redlionhotelmonterey-guestreservations” and I stupidly thought that it was the Red Lion Website. After that, the confirmation email came from "The Red Lion Hotel" (the domain was hotelsone.com). I didn't catch that either, and I only printed the first page of the confirmation with the hotel charge, the third-party charge is well below at the bottom on page two. Lesson learned.
I’m hoping my credit card company will help with a refund.

Room was clean. The staff was nice. Lots of parking. Close to mall and restaurants. Quick drive to Monterey Bay aquarium, Cannery Row and the beach. Would definitely stay again next time I’m in the area.

My experience at Hotel Red Lion wasn't the best, truthfully the worst in all hotels and inns I have stayed at. I was hoping for a better experience while visiting Monterey which is by the way so beautiful. My family arrived late and then was given a one bedroom queen room without informing me at check in until we got to our room. I called the front desk, the lady who probably was the only employee of the night felt that she had the right to complain instead. I was tired, I drove for 13 hours and we expected our two queen size bed, instead she told us none was available and they are full. The room was dirty and super dusty. Then I tried to be accommodating and understanding so I ask if we can get extra bedsheets and blankets because where would the rest of the family sleep. She tells me that there are NO CLEAN Beddings or Towels?! this looks very bad for this business to still be operating.
Anyways, she did do something right and left a note that I wanted to complain to the manager in the morning.
Next morning, a different staff was in the front desk and she goes ahead and tells me that they gave me a One Hundred discount that was taken out from my total. I thought this was nice and at least they are doing something, but this still didn't take away the rudeness I felt the night before. I really hope they retrain the staffs how to speak to customers and fix their problem because I hate giving a bad review too.

We’ve come back-and-forth as a couple and with our littles and every time we love it it’s very inexpensive which everybody can afford the kids love the pool. It’s just a fun family outing hotel
