Nice stay, just not quite 5 stars....
My wife and I stayed for one night in the Alium room on a weekend break option. I believe this is the largest room option at the hotel.
The good:
The room itself was very spacious with a large adjoining bathroom, with a central bathroom and separate shower. The building is very old and so you take this into account, with the creaking floor boards, etc that adds to the charm. The room very much looked like the website photographs so that is all positive. A couple bottles of water, tea and coffee making facility was provided with nespreso machine. There was no in room fridge though.
The bed was very comfortable and the room clean and tidy. The room looks out to the garden area and adjacent road, on the opposite side. It was very quiet, being on the second floor at the end of the hotel.
The staff come in for special mention and all that we met were helpful, attentive and very pleasant. The garden area was nice, with comfortable furniture and cushions and it was busy but still seating available. Location wise it is a short walk from the high street but again, quiet. I was also concerned about car parking, but you can use the adjacent sister hotel that is a 2 minute walk away, that has ample parking.
We ate in The Lamb restaurant in the evening and enjoyed it. We shared a starter of cod scampi and chicken liver parfait, which was very nice. For main we both had the lemon sole. This was well cooked but a bit salty for our pallet. The service was again very good.
Breakfast wise there was the usual cooked dish options and the eggs Benedict we had was very nice and an option of cereal, yogurt, granola etc. Again all good.
Room for improvement:
We had booked a weekend deal but the communications of what was actually included was not great. In the booking confirmation it advised that we had a £35 per person addition towards food or drink in the hotel. We had arrived early as we were going for a long walk of the local area, and on return at about check in time at 3pm we were advised our booking included tea/ scones/ cream. We did not know about this. Also, when we checked out we were advised we should have been provided with a glass of champagne each. That was then taken off the bill but would have preferred to have had it during our stay.
Also in the room was left a Molten Brown diffuser with our welcome letter. It was completely unclear if this was a gift or if we needed to buy it. Upon checking at reception, they confirmed though that it was included in our room rate.
I would suggest that during booking that it is made clear what is included or not as we could have come away with less than what we supposedly paid for.
Other minor comments include maintenance in the room. A light bulb was not working in the bedroom and when I tried to use the TV in the bathroom to put some radio on, no channels would tune. I know this is perhaps a minor issue but at £500 per night, small details like this make a difference.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Staff here were amazing. As a solo traveller with my dog they were really welcoming and friendly.

Nice lunch
Top notch amazing food mitch star from me .beuty of a proper old historical building . Great garden real comfy chairs . Staff on it friendly and attentive. I've been fortunate enough to eat in some great places and the lamb is right up there full marks to the chef and his team . Many tnx j .

Check-in was very straightforward and our room (Alium) was excellent - spacious and with very comfortable furnishings. Breakfast was also excellent . Highly recommend this hotel/room and will definitely stay again.

Wonderful stay, every time.
We often stay here when we go to The UK each year. It is wonderful. Food and servoce are excellent. Ambience is wonderful. In the summer its so nice to sit in the garden.
