An Honest Review of No.10 Hotel - Handling a Complaint
I would like to highlight that despite bringing some of the points within this review to the attention of the management of this establishment they do not wish to come to an amicable agreement on how to resolve the issue that has been raised, despite the hotel management confirming in writing that they were the ones at fault. I would therefore leave it to the judgement of those who intend to visit this hotel to determine if it is in their best interests.
To aid those reading this review I would like to put my stay into context.
This was the first (and probably the last) time that my wife and I stayed at the No.10 Hotel in Glasgow. As a gift for my 50th birthday my wife had got me tickets to see Metallica at Hampden Park and had booked the hotel as part of the gift. The original booking for the hotel was made in May/June 2025 when the tickets for Metallica's tour came on sale. My wife wanted to ensure that we could get a hotel nearby so we didn't have to struggle trying to queue for a train or wait for taxi's late into the evening. As I am sure that everyone can acknowledge, this was a special one off event with a large number of people wanting to be there.
Issue 1 (key issue)
My wife booked the hotel through their website and despite the massively inflated fee for the room (£430 for one night despite the normal price being approximately £126) as she wanted the room to be booked and not have to worry about where we would spend the night. My wife noted she had made an error by booking a 'twin' room but straight away phoned the hotel, explained her mistake and was told that this was not an issue but in order to get a 'double' room she would now have to upgrade to an 'executive double' with an additional cost of £60 brining the total for one nights stay to £490. My wife agreed and the staff member 'Tilly' sent a confirmation that the room had been booked.
When my wife and I arrived at the hotel on the 25th June 2026, over 1 year later, we went through the booking in process, paid £430 plus an addition £50 which confused my wife, then took our heavy case up to the room. On opening the door we found the room to have twin beds. My wife returned to reception where she spoke with 'Mina' and explained that she had booked a 'Executive Double' not a 'Twin'. Mira stated that the room was right with the booking that had been made. My wife highlighted that she spoke with someone on the phone who assured her that the booking had been rectified and that it we should have an 'Executive Double'. Mira looked on the computer and acknowledged that her colleague 'Tilly' had put a note on their system. However, the hotel was full and despite having a confirmation the room was right with the booking that had been made. My wife showed Mina the emailed confirmation of an 'Executive Double' being booked but was abruptly told that it "was not a confirmation from the hotel because it has nil value against it". My wife pointed out that it had details on the email showing that it was an upgrade from the original booking. This was dismissed by Mina who started becoming defensive and argumentative towards my wife. She told my wife that we had been given a 'free upgrade' and that we were supposed to have been in a classic room. Another person on reception asked if the twin beds could not simply be put together. Mina stubbornly replied "NO!". Mina then escorted my wife up the stairs and entered into another guest's room just to demonstrate her point. My wife asked Mina to explain to me what she had just explained to her and I again highlighted the email confirming that the room should have a double bed. Mina became aggressive in her tone towards us to which I stated that I did not want to start and argument with her. She continued and I again reiterated I didn't want to argue. I just replied we will take the room and Mina walked away.
My wife was very upset at the way she had been spoken to by Mina but I said that if we had continued to argue we could find ourselves being told to leave, despite her being in the wrong. All the hotels in the area were fully booked and so I said that we would look at resolving the issue the next day.
The next day we had to rush off because our train had been cancelled and we had to find an alternative way to the train station to get home. I asked at reception who it was we had spoken to and we was informed that it was 'Mina' and that despite the way she spoke to us she was just one of the staff on reception. She could have brought this issue to the attention of a manager but clearly decided she had enough authority to belittle hotel guests.
We have brought this to the attention of Heather Watt - Front Office Manager who apologised and confirmed that it was the staff at the hotel who were at fault and that we should have had a double room as confirmed in the email. As a show of good will she offered a free upgrade to a king room when we stay again. We highlighted that this was just a one off visit and that we had travelled a great distance just to see Metallica. We asked if a partial refund could be considered as the hotel had greatly inflated the prices and still would be in profit (even if it was just £100 they would still be over £200 in profit). Heather's reply went back to Mina's argument of that we had been given a 'free' upgrade and that there was nothing that they are willing to do.
Issue 2
As we know Thursday 25th June was marked as being one of the hottest days of the year so far and had caused numerous problems up and down the country. As we arrived I noted that another guest was being given a fan to help keep cool. When we was in the room it was exceptionally hot like a radiator had been left on. Yet we were not offered a fan and after being spoken to poorly by Mina on reception I didn't want to go and ask her if other fans were available. It would have been nice to have been asked if one was required.
Issue 3
I was woken by loud banging at 5:30am. I couldn't determine where this noise was coming from and it just continued all morning. It was regular and sounded like something banging against an external wall repeatedly. Again, I felt that there was little point in highlighting this to reception as it was the next morning and we was leaving that day.
Other Negatives Noted:
- Breakfast was held in their reception area and a small bar where people were squeezing past each other because of the lack of space. There were much bigger rooms available to have breakfast in but they chose to use the smallest area creating the highest risk of people bumping into each other or dropping food or drinks on others as they squeezed through.
- The Barbeque being held in the garden was fairly poor. It was very over priced for very cheap ingredients. The smoke being generated was choking and filled the garden every time something was added to the gas powered grill. 4 Chicken wings (which we know are tiny) were £7.50. A hot dog was £8 and was mainly made up of the onions on the top. It hid the hot dog. The coating being placed on the wings was in a tub that was sat on the floor and not on a table. The same could be said of the tongues being used. A Pina Colada slushy (like kids have but alcoholic) on a hot evening was £11.50.
- We reserved a table for the evening and was put directly next to others who were vaping. For me there should have been an area away from people eating for people to vape.
- There is literally no parking spaces. Unless there is a car park behind the hotel that I missed.
- The furniture in the room was stained.
- The person who owns this hotel is 'well known' according to the taxi driver who took us to the station
Positives
Its very near Hampden Park and Mount Florida Train Station
Its sad that the management of this hotel view that profits are more important than their guests satisfaction. I would just say to all please air on the side of caution when booing here.
