Puerto Madryn is Argentina's Patagonian hub--the place to go if you're interested in seeing wildlife (e.g. whales, dolphins, sea elephants, penguins) and exploring the Valdez Peninsula. Tour guides and organized excursions are very easy to find in this town--it's actually kind of hard to avoid them! The city's official website has a listing of all the tour operators and average pricing for typical outings too: www.madryn.gov.ar/turismo. (I can't remember the name of the guide company I used--sorry!)
Great opportunity to see pinguins and be close to them! Incredible sight seeing...
Where the hot desert meets the cold sea, Puerto Madryn offers a welcoming oasis of hospitality and Patagonian charm. It's an inviting seaside community more focused on it's local ocean wildlife wonders than on promoting itself as a beach destination. Nevertheless, its beach is quite nice, if you can brave the somewhat frigid water. There's something magical about this place. It shouldn't be here. Water resources alone demand its impossibility. Yet it's here - amidst Patagonian wilds. There's some great Argentine churassco steak houses, pubs, seaside cottages and mass quantities of nationally produced malbec wines. But mostly it's a slice of metropolitan life on your way to see the wild Peninsula Valdes.
